Amber Brown Photography

Amber Brown is a Northumbrian photographer, printmaker and early-career programmer based between the NE and Scotland. Her work explores notions of place, home and belonging through cultural, political and personal narratives. It is rooted in many slow, ritualistic processes which largely fall under the umbrella of printmaking and large format photography. Amber aims to utilise labour-intensive techniques to investigate the post-industrial landscape, ideas of Northernness and how archives can interact with the contemporary. 

She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA (Hons) in Photography in 2020 and achieved an MA with Distinction in Art Museum and Gallery Studies at Newcastle University in 2021, where her areas of interests are artist-run spaces, contemporary and documentary photography and relationships between the latter and ethics. 

She enjoys working with artists and collaborative spaces outside of her own practice, having lead numerous arts and photography projects. After working with both the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh and Amber Film and Photography Collective CIC in a Programmes and Exhibitions capacity, Amber is now working for Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council as Creative Programmes Officer. This includes assisting on outdoor-arts focused Stockton International Riverside Festival, and leading on numerous seasonal events across the year alongside a team.
